Having trouble logging in to Blackboard?
A couple of general notes:
- You should have gotten your user name and student ID number from
the college before logging into Blackboard.
- Blackboard does not "lock you out" after a certain number of
failed password attempts, so don't be afraid to try different
passwords. However, you should have your Student ID number, and
that should be your password.
- Of the various and sundry computer systems on campus, Blackboard
is the last one to hear about you. Before you get a Blackboard
account you, must be listed with the Registrar's office, have an SMC ID
number, have a working SMC e-mail account, and possibly a few other
things depending on which program you're in. Normally, login
problems are because of delays in upstream processing, and you find out
about it here because logging into Blackboard is one of the first
things you're asked to do.
- In order to be listed in Blackboard, you have to be listed in the
central database, have a St. Marys's e-mail account (e.g.,
abc1@stmarys-ca.edu), and be enrolled in at least one class.
Please answer the questions below by clicking on the answer that best
fits your situation.
Have you ever been able to log in to Blackboard?
I don't have my user name or Student ID
Yes, I used to be able to log in, but not now.
No, this is the first time I've tried.
I used to be able to log in, but not now.
Call the Blackboard Administrator.
Call Rae Peralta at x4198 or e-mail her at aperalta@stmarys-ca.edu.
This is the first time I've tried to
log in.
Your Blackboard username should be the same as your St. Mary's e-mail
username. For example, if your St. Mary's e-mail is
jsmith@stmarys-ca.edu, your Blackboard username would be jsmith.
Your password should be the seven-digit Student ID on the front of your
student ID
card, including any leading zeros. There is a small chance your
password is the same as your username.
Try both of these to log into Blackboard.
Yes, it worked.
Neither my student ID nor my username works as
my password.
I don't have a student ID card, or have not been
given my Student ID number.
Neither my student ID nor my username
works as my password.
An e-mail account is prerequisite to getting a Blackboard account, so
let's see if you can log into your e-mail account. You should
have gotten an account name and an e-mail password when you
registered. Go to St. Mary's
Online Mail (it will pop up in a new browser window) and enter the
e-mail username and password you recieved, then come back to this page.
Yes, I could log into e-mail.
No, the e-mail system said "Login failed
for some reason."
I have not gotten a username and password
for e-mail.
Yes, I could log into e-mail.
If you can log into e-mail, your Blackboard account may be created in
the next daily datafeed from the central computer. So, wait until
noon tomorrow and try again.
I waited a day, and it still doesn't work.
Yes, it worked.
No, the e-mail system said "Login
failed for some reason."
If your e-mail account hasn't been created, you
should call your registrar and confirm that you are listed in the
central database.
I have not gotten a username and
password for e-mail.
You should call the Registrar to be sure you are
listed in the central database.

Contact the Blackboard Administrator.
I don't have a student ID card, or have
not been given my Student ID number.
If you do not have your student ID number, you should confirm that you
are listed in the central database. To tell if you're listed
there, You should call the
registrar's office of your program. The questions you should ask
are:
- Am I listed in the central database?
- Have I got a St. Mary's e-mail account listed in my record?
If so, what is it?
- Am I registered for any classes?
In order to have a Blackboard account, the answers to the above
questions all needs to be Yes. Note that these offices will not
normally give out your StudentID over the phone. For most
programs, it comes in paper mail.

They said I am listed in
the central database, but have no e-mail address.
If they say you are listed, and have an e-mail address, but are not
registered for any classes, then you should talk to them about how to
get registered for classes.

account. You can call the Business Office at x 4209 or (925)

You need to call the admissions office and find out why, and
get listed.
